WordPress Plugin: AntiLeech - Stop Those Sploggers

Ever have a problem with people stealing your blog content?

I never thought I would have that problem, but I do now. Ever since I created that photo gallery plugin for WordPress, I’ve received enough visits and page hits to be honored with at least 4 or 5 sploggers.

In case you don’t know, a splogger is someone who takes your RSS feed (or the content of your posts), and republishes them on some other site. They do this because they can fill up their new site with free content, add some advertisements to it, and submit it to search engines. So, rather than you getting the advertising dollars or the visitors to your beautiful content, they do. Damn sploggers.

Enter Owen Winkler.

Owen recently created the AntiLeech plugin, which effectively makes the sploggers work for you, instead of for them. I won’t get into the details, but it effectively is an attempt to give you the page rank and search engine optimization that they are trying to get.

So, I raise my pint of beer to you, Owen!

And I raise my middle finger to you, sploggers!

UPDATE: I just updated my plugin to replace my content on the splogger sites with the following text:

The site you are looking at right now steals content. I am unashamed at my stupidity and can not help but leech off of others because I can not think of anything better to do with my time. Please do not come back. I hate you.

Microloans, Microfinance, and Microentrepreneurship Oh My!

Have you ever seen someone in need, wanted to help them, but didn’t? Maybe you didn’t have the time. Maybe you were worried they’d squander your hard earned money on booze. Maybe you didn’t even know how to help, but just wished you could.
I’ve thought that tons of times. Every one [...]

Happy World Carfree Day

Today is World Carfree Day! And to commemorate such a wonderful day, I’ve decided to walk to (and from) work. In fact, I’ll probably do the same for lunch.
Oh, wait. I do that every day. Well, shoot. Then just drink beer for hell of it! Who needs [...]

Cool Gadgets: Rechargable Batteries via USB

I don’t usually make a point to highlight gadgets too often, but this was too cool to pass up. Ted passed me this via IM today and I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Ever warned people that you have a blog now?

I’ve said something like this before. And then I regretted it and remembered that I’m a complete nerd.
Have you ever said something like this? What’s your story?

How do you know you’re successful?

Seth asks the question, “How do you know you’re brand or organization is successful“.
Personally, I have an RSS feed off of Technorati for all the projects I’m involved in. Additionally, I do google hacks to see what sites are linking to me that I don’t know about on an occassional basis. And [...]

Talk Like a Pirate Day

I totally forgot! Today is “Talk like a pirate” day. So, I was happy enough to activate my plugin to convert this entire site into pirate talk.
Welcome aboard!
Oh, and if you’re not sure how to talk like a pirate, check this video on “How to talk like a pirate” out.

A few months ago, Eventful released one cool tool - the ability to demand your favorite performers to come to your city. Talk about flipping the common tour scheduling on its head!
So, to commemorate this coolness, I figured I’d list the current top 10 performers being demanded.
