I don’t usually type in AOL-speak, but … OMFG, LOL, ROFL, etc.!
So, it’s really early in the morning, and I can’t sleep. Naturally, I do what every other computer geek does – watch some late night TV and then see what’s on the internet.
Stumbling around some delicious bookmarks and such, I ran across XTorrent. If you like torrents (and have a Mac), you’ll love this program. Here’s why:
- It’s beautiful. If you’ve read this far, you’re probably a Mac user, and that means beauty is probably important. We’ve got a winner here.
- It’s intuitive. Ditto for the above.
- It’s small. As a geek, this is also important. The smaller the program, the better. Especially when it does exactly what you want, and no more, no less.
- It’s got search! After using Transmission and Azureus for a while, I settled for Transmission for the above reasons. But, I still had to search torrent sites for the things I wanted to download. No longer! The first thing this little baby did when I cranked the engine was tell me “Search here”. It even has suggestions as you type (like Google Suggest)!
- It sorts searches by stars and shows what files are inside. I love this feature too. By showing what’s inside, you can be a little more assured of what you’re getting. It’s still a torrent, so you still can’t be 100% sure, but it’s close.
I’m not sure I could ask for more than what’s been given in this little app. It’s the best piece of software I’ve seen since Textmate.

Alex,
I agree… I hate paying for this kind of stuff… but I haven’t seen it bundled with spyware. I think you might want to recheck that. He makes money off the sale, not spyware… I’m pretty sure of it.
And yes, textmate rules. :)
