No, the goal for $1M was set back when I was about 15 years old. At that time it was a pretty generic goal. Now it's very specific, because at an extremely low (well, in typical conditions) interest rate, $5M gives you $60k/year just living off the interest. I figure I can live on that for quite some time and if I live on less than that, then inflation won't hurt us that bad. That's the reasoning. Thanks Amber (and Thomas).
