$$Billion Idea: JSON-consumable Chart Creator

Here’s a free idea for you. I’d love the credit if you build it, and if nobody does, maybe I will some day because this is just awesome (read: annoying that it doesn’t already exist).

Scenario: I have a JSON API I want to build an infographic off, or some charts and graphs that change dynamically.

The problem: All services I’ve seen up to this point that create charts and graphs from JSON data need to be formatted in their own vendor-specific way.

The solution: Create a service (looking at you Chartio, et al), which consumes absolutely any JSON endpoint on the web (either one time or perhaps even auto-update in daily/weekly intervals to keep current), and let me, the user, tell the system (a) what data points I want to use and (b) what output look/feel I want. Then, let me do that multiple times on the same page if I wanted to using the same or different sources.

The result: Infographics gone wild. I could take one API and twist it all kinds of different ways based on the data in there to come out with different views of the data that are interesting, all without having to code my brains out creating a custom application every time I had an idea like this.

Extend it: Now that you’re going to run off and build this… add some flavor to it… let me add in other APIs and help me match them up so I can build even cooler and more interesting infographics, charts, graphs, tables, or other things.

Like I said, all I ask for is attribution. Go make your millions now.
