Problem:

Sales people, insurance companies, construction machinery salesforces, and general contractors all need sales leads. How would someone get the gargantuan list of California contractors contact information? I’ll tell you.

Solution:

I was hired on a contract job a little while ago to see if I could gather up all the information I could on the construction contractors in California. Of course I did so in fabulous fashion and ended up with a great big list of interesting data. About 625,000 records, to be generally exact. 270,000 of these contractors have current, active licenses.

The beautiful thing is that I don’t know what to do with all this data I now own. I don’t know who else needs it. I do know people are buying it for anywhere between $1.00 – $0.05 per record, but I don’t know who they are.

How current is this list?
I finished retrieving all the information on the first run within 1 weeks time, ending on May 28th, 2007
When do you plan on updating it?
I’m planning on updating it in January of 2008.
What price would you want for it?
The going rate is 5 cents per record for the entire list ($13,500), but I am splitting it into different cities (see below) which might be more in your price range depending on the cities you want. If I split the list into cities or types of contractors, the price will be $1.00 per contractor.
Does this list include email addresses?
Nope. Sorry. I might include email addresses in the future if I can cross reference my data with another data source. If you know of a data source like that, let me know.
Can I just have the 270k active ones? Or can I have just a certain portion of these records that fit my zip code or other criteria?
Sure. Tell me what you’d like and I’ll be happy to separate out just those records for you. The price per record goes up depending on how many different ways I have to slice and dice the data for you. For instance, if you want the entire list, it’s $13,500 ($0.05 per record) because I don’t have to do anything to it. I’ll send it to you as-is. If you want just contractors in a particular area, the price goes up per record. So, let’s say you’re only wanting 3000 records, depending on how complex the filtering process is, it might turn out to be $0.60 per record, which would mean you’d pay $1800. That’s just an example, prices vary according to how much work it is for me to get you just the list you want.
What about certain cities?
Absolutely. In fact, I’m already working on splitting them up now. Here’s a list of what I’ve got so far (I’ll be updating this as fast as I can): Oakland California (2069 records), Los Angeles California (7712 records)
