8GB Thumb Drives Still Crazy Expensive, But LaCie Has a Nice Alternative

Last month we were pretty keen to note that Transcend had released an 8GB thumb drive, but at $612 it was a bittersweet announcement. Now we’re pleased to see that there are multiple companies producing drives in this size, but we’re less than impressed with the corresponding price points. Edge has just announced an 8GB keychain drive of its own, but makes absolutely no progress toward making this thing economically sensible with an even higher MSRP of $620. Until high-capacity thumb drives start falling to a reasonable cost level, we’re far more apt to recommend LaCie’s new 8GB Carte Orange USB hard drive for only $150.
