I Shuffle, You Shuffle, Any Fool Can Make a Fake Shuffle

With cheapo iPod Shuffles sold out well into January, what’s a parent to do when their kid demands an audio player and they don’t want to spring for an iPod nano? Selling for about $35 to $40 in online auctions, these phony players cost less than half as much as a real-deal Shuffle and, apart from intellectual property issues, they look just fine to us. How hard can it be to make a screenless media player as good as the one from Apple, anyway?
