ReplayTV Coming to Your PC

Times have been tough for ReplayTV. In spite of the fact that the company pioneered DVR entertainment, it’s consistently taken a back seat to the more popular TiVo, which has become to DVR what Kleenex is to facial tissue. But ReplayTV hopes to recapture some market share in 2006 by making its service available as software for your PC. Not only that, but the company is selling off the remaining inventory of its DVR boxes in what may be a final transition from being a hardware vendor to a software and services provider. Ultimately, the company is taking a gamble on the prospect that the PC will eventually supplant the television as the center of your home entertainment system — a prospect that many forgotten companies have gambled on in the last decade, only to vanish into obscurity.
