Consideration of a New Theme: Contempt Shadow

I’ve heard all the professional bloggers out there rant and rave about what not to do when you’re professionally blogging. One of those things is radically changing your blog look. Considering I haven’t yet really “branded” myself with a certain color scheme, I’m going to ignorantly think that I’m immune to the problem of losing users based on too many changes.

So, I saw this theme which I thought was pretty cool. It’s a little pastelish for me, but none-the-less, I kinda like it. I do think I want a design that’s a little less small-font/techie looking. It just doesn’t feel right anymore.

Agree? Disagree? What do you think about that theme for this blog? Or, if you have nothing else to say, what’s your favorite color?

  1. Hey Nate,

I feel like that theme is a combination of a few different ones I’ve seen over the last couple of weeks when I was doing my incessant digging for a theme. I do like it… but it reminds of several different elements of other themes like I said before which makes it not look very original.

What I’d like to see in a theme is the javascript pop open navigation like this one but with two or even three columns. Maybe even the ability to choose if it would be horizontal or vertically placed.

Granted I’m no professional blogger, hell… I’m not sure what I am besides a girl geek who loves all things tech… but I think having a new look to your website freshens things up and would KEEP your users interested. But hell, what do I know. :) I couldn’t even get the DUH gallery to have appropriate spacing until now! :-)

Hah! Kelly, thanks for the comment. I agree…. I kinda like a change. But, maybe that’s why I’m not a “professional blogger” yet.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. I kinda agree. I haven’t found my zen wordpress theme yet. I really should just make my own again. Time is the enemy there.

Anyway, thanks for the comment, again. Good to see ya here, and I’m glad I could help get the gallery straightened out for you.

  3. I much prefer your current theme to that.

I’m the person who made Contempt Shadow. Its great that you like my theme, but I’m inclined to agree that it probably wouldn’t be the best theme for a professional blog.

But anyway, thanks for liking it!

Abhinav, I don’t think we were saying that it’s not good for a professional blog. I was just saying that the “professionals” don’t recommend changing blog themes that often.

I think your blog theme would be great for a professional, actually.

Ah, but you know what? I just realized that the theme that’s being talked about on the page I linked to is not the same as the theme that was created. Shoot. I am more interested in the theme you’re using right now, Abhinav. Sorry.

I see. The other the is Lush for WordPress. The link should be available on my blog.
